THE BIGGEST BAILOUT IN HUMAN HISTORY
We are witnesses to the biggest bailout in human history. There is certainly a lot of financial anxiety going on these days. The media has flooded the news with the government bailouts of Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman, AIG, and now the government receptacle of the toxic debt which is estimated to be around a trillion dollars. People debate whether the bailout is right or wrong. People argue whether it is a moral hazard the way the government is bailing out these companies. What happens to us with or without a bailout? What will these bailouts ultimately cost? Who is going to pay for it all? All of these are great questions that need answers.
There is so much finger pointing and blame game going on that it will make your head spin. Know whose fault I think it is? Everybody’s. There was no individual responsibility when people took on more debt than they would ever be able to afford to pay back. Mortgage brokers, banks, mortgage companies, appraisers, Wall Street, government agencies, Congress and Presidents all are to blame. But I don’t see what good a bunch of blaming is going to do. It certainly isn’t going to fix the problem. We are all in this together at this point. So it seems like without a rescuer, we are doomed. The focus need not be on who is to blame. The focus needs to be on the one who rescues. And when that thought crossed my mind….
WHO IN THE WORLD IS GOING TO RESCUE US FROM WHAT SEEMS LIKE CERTAIN DOOM?
Then my whole perspective changed. Times like this require us to take a huge step back and get our eternal perspective back.
The blame game goes back to the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden. Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the serpent. Man had sinned and it was going to cost big time. We were all doomed because of the whole ordeal. Not merely financially doomed, in this case, our souls were eternally doomed. Worse than Lehman going bankrupt, worse than Fannie Mae, worse than a money market losing money, worse than the Great Depression, we are talking about seriously doomed here. The kind of doomed that justly sentenced us to eternity in hell. THIS WAS IN FACT A CERTAIN DOOM AND THERE WAS NO WAY OUT. UNTIL THE GREATEST BAILOUT IN HUMAN HISTORY OCCURED.
God would have to come himself in Jesus and willingly give up his own life in death on a cross in order to save us from the doom that we deserved. The great rescuer had done nothing wrong. He was completely innocent of all sin. He lived a sin free life yet in his love for us, He gave the ultimate price for our sins….it cost him his life.
We need to focus on the rescuer of our souls, Jesus Christ. He is the one who saves. He is the one who rescues us from the “no way outs” of life. And our only logical response is to give Him our heart and all of our lives. Jesus is the one to be worshipped. All other ground is sinking sand. Jesus is the one who saves us from the roots of the problem. Our security does not come from anything or anybody but him. What IF your money market account fails you? What If the FDIC insurance fails you? What IF the government fails you? What IF your religion fails you? You want the only ultimate security that there is in life? There is only one who offers this life and it’s not a principle, process, or product. It’s a person and his name is Jesus Christ. And he says himself, “I will never leave nor forsake you.” Now you can take that to the bank.
I can’t tell you how this financial situation is going to play out but I can tell you for sure who knows your future and “life is worth the living Just because He lives”. Where is your faith today? In whom do you trust your life and future to?
